Assessments FAQ

Do you provide court ordered or forensic evaluations?

We do not provide court-ordered evaluations or parental capacity assessments.

What is the process of an assessment?

The actual evaluation where you (or your child) need to be present takes about 6-10 hours total. Information is gathered from an interview (adult client, parents or caregivers), and cognitive and psychological testing you complete at this time is then scored, interpreted, and the results are written up in a document. A differential diagnoses process takes place where all possible disorders in our psychologist’s scope of practice are considered. Diagnoses are made based on the information provided, testing results and criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual DSM-5-TR.

What age ranges do you assess?

We assess patients who are 5 years of age and over, including adults.

How do I know if a psychological assessment is what I need?

You may consider a comprehensive assessment for yourself if you have difficulty meeting demands in daily functioning, academic achievement, relationship dynamics, professionally or meeting life goals. If you wish to learn how to assist you with your mental health by getting a diagnosis and treatment recommendations in one of the following areas: neurodevelopmental (ASD, ADHD), depression, bipolar, anxiety-related, addictions, conduct/oppositional or antisocial behaviours, trauma/stress and coping, relationships, personality disorders and general well-being. Or if you have undergone therapy with little success and would like to know other alternatives.

What types of reports are being offered?

We offer two types of reports: briefs, and full reports.

A brief contains a summary of the psychometric tools used, clinical observation, diagnoses and recommendations.

A full report contains a brief summary of the interview, individualized results of each psychometric tool used, clinical observation, diagnoses and recommendations.

The different reports vary in time (6 to 40 hours per assessment), which will be reflected in the final fee for the services provided.

Do assessments come with recommendations?

Every assessment includes recommendations/suggestions, which are made based on the client’s strengths and weaknesses for the client, school professionals, workplace, health professionals and mental health professionals. This is the last section of the report, in either the brief or full report. Questions about any recommendations are answered at the time of the report sharing with you and/or your family.

Do you share the reports with different providers (school, General Practitioner, work)?

Reports are shared with individuals other than the client only when the client or their legal representative has provided signed consent for the release of information.

What about consent?

The age of consent in NB is 16, and clients 16 years of age and over can provide their own consent for service. People 15 and under MUST have a legal guardian/parent present to provide consent. For people under 15, if parents are together, both sign the consent form. If parents are separated, a custody agreement must be present in order to confirm who makes the medical decisions for the child.

What is the cost associated with an assessment?

The cost will depend on the number of hours needed. For an assessment with a brief report estimates around 10/12 hours of work (210$ per hour). For an assessment with a full report estimates around 16/40 hours of work (210$ per hour). For more information please check our “Cost, Coverage and forms of payment”.

How do I pay for an assessment?

The payment can be broken into 2 payments. Full payment via credit/debit card is required prior to receiving the report and attending any report sharing appointments. All payments are pre-arranged at the time of booking through our admin team or therapist.

Can I cancel my assessment appointment?

Assessment appointments missed without cancelling or cancelled with less than 5 business days of notice, will be billed a cancellation fee of 3 hours at the regular hourly rate to the credit card on file (i.e., $630).
