Ana Sofia Costa
My core values revolve around balance between family and work, honesty, humility, integrity, respect, a strong work ethic, and genuinely connecting with my clients. I am committed to offering a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space where individuals can work at their own pace and truly be themselves.
I’m a Portuguese native, born in Mozambique and raised in Portugal. I am trained as a Forensic and Social Exclusion Psychologist, a ramification from Clinical Psychology. I immigrated to Canada in 2017 and have been practicing in NB since November 2017. I completed my undergraduate (B.A. in Psychology) and graduate (Master’s in Forensic and Social Exclusion) degrees at the Psychology Faculty of the Universidade Lusófona.
When I’m not working with clients, you can find me spending time with my children, playing virtual reality, spending time in the garden, walking and spending time outdoors, learning new sports like skiing, or putting together a tasty meal or baking in my kitchen.
My experience with health services began in Portugal where I trained as a Forensic and Social Exclusion Psychologist. Over the past six years in Canada, I have worked in a clinical setting focused on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Anxiety, ADHD and Eating Disorders.
I have a high degree of interest in performing assessments and have been focusing on administering assessments related to Mental Health/ Diagnostic, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Personality Disorders.
I have been working in cooperation with Dr. Boisvert to provide assessments prior to surgery in an attempt to identify underlying problems at risk of impeding success post-surgery. This included providing pre- and post-resources for clients as they pertained to surgery.
My primary therapy approaches include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT-E, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Written Exposure Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Exposure Therapy, Systemic Desensitization, Internal Family System Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. An integrative approach allows me to choose what is best for each individual client, and I am always interested in further education around different practices.
